1. Up For Bids: Texas A&M Using eBay To Sell Used Items

It seems garage sales have gone high tech - even in Aggieland. Texas A&M University will put up various items for sale - including 20 buses used by its transportation services department to move students around campus - on eBay starting today, hoping to take advantage of the international power and attention of the internet, says Rex Janne, director of purchasing services. When the average Texan cleans out his or her garage, there are usually enough items for a small yard sale. When Texas A&M, with its 45,000 students and 10,000 faculty and staff, cleans out the attic, you're talking about the mother of all garage sales, and those usually occur 2-3 times a year. But those sales, conducted by a professional auctioneer and termed "public auctions," usually draw 250-300 persons looking for furniture, bicycles and office equipment.
