OK, being a sentimental fool that I am, I couldn't resist to just post the following lyrics by, who other than the great Pink Floyd. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got a whole lab waiting to be exploded. *sarcastic mad scientist laugh*

"Alright, I'll take care of them part of the time, but there's somebody else that needs taking care of in Washington"
"Who's that?"
"Rose Pilchitt!"
"Rose Pilchitt? Who's that?"
[Kid screams in background. foreground: "Shut Up!"]
"36-24-36 [laughter] does that answer your question?"
[foreground: "Oi! I've got a little black book with me poems in!"]
"Who's she?"
"She was 'Miss Armoured Division' in 1961 ... "

I've got a little black book with my poems in.
Got a bag with a toothbrush and a comb in.
When I'm a good dog, they sometimes throw me a bone in.

I got elastic bands keepin my shoes on.
Got those swollen hand blues.
Got thirteen channels of shit on the T.V. to choose from.
I've got electric light.
And I've got second sight.
And amazing powers of observation.
And that is how I know
When I try to get through
On the telephone to you
There'll be nobody home.

I've got the obligatory Hendrix perm.
And the inevitable pinhole burns
All down the front of my favorite satin shirt.
I've got nicotine stains on my fingers.
I've got a silver spoon on a chain.
I've got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains.

I've got wild staring eyes.
And I've got a strong urge to fly.
But I got nowhere to fly to.
Ooooh, Babe when I pick up the phone

"Surprise, surprise, surprise..." (from Gomer Pyle show)
There's still nobody home.

I've got a pair of Gohills boots
and I got fading roots.

"Where the hell are you?"
"Over 47 german planes were destroyed with the loss of only 15 of our own aircraft"
"Where the hell are you Simon?"
[Machine gun sound, followed by plane crashing]

Nobody home--Pink Floyd

Since last week, it has been really hard for me to concentrate on school works. I get tired that easy, that fast. It might be the hellish combination of cold weather and the holiday fat. So, that's it, tomorrow night, I am gonna get me some laps. Ah, I can feel the calming serenity of the water already...

While I was picking up the pictures from the 1-hour service, the over-friendly photo woman complimented me on how wonderful and fun the road trip was. Apparently, she had enough time to go through all of them, the pictures, that is. I found it creepy that she did tell me something like that. Well, maybe not as creepy as if she'd said that the camera added a couple more pounds on me or that I looked better in person *winks*. She could be easily the real case personification of Seymour 'Sy' Parrish of the One Hour Photo. Doesn't unwritten rule exist out there, that photo developing people should not comment on any of the pictures developed, not without being asked for? Boo...

My brother has been back here from home for one week. Among other good stuff in his luggages, he brought the most complete food-stuff-from-home ever assembled. This includes X-mas cookies (nastar and three others), garlic peanuts, crispy yummy Kue Bawang, Silver Queens and other wafer-type snacks, tons of raw krupuk, Dodol Garut, Ting-Ting, lotsa candies, and some other stuff I couldn't remember. We carefully rationed them so that it will be enough for, you know, at least 3 months. It turns out, at this rate, we'll definitely run out of them much much faster than initial expectation. Oh, well...

PS:
There is nothing more mindbloggingly beautiful as in listening to one whole Pink Floyd album while working on one's homework, feeding on dark Silver Queen on a nice Monday afternoon.

Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind.

--Bertrand Russell

Dear Bertie,

I find it interesting that we share the same passions for living. In the end, did you think that you have achieved what you were looking for?

Sincerely,
xinda

Dumb Questions for the Weekend

What do people do when they go clubbin'?
How do people dress for the occassion?
What if one has two left feet?
Will there be flirtings?
How does one handle it/them?

The girls and I are going clubbin' tonight. (My first, yay)

Refusenik

Buzzz... (something buzzing somewhere in the living room).
Me frantically looking for it.
Great, found it. Look at the caller ID, uhmm...

X: Mas I?
MI: Iya, pa kabar?
X: Baik, agak-agak bosen..hehe..Lagi dimana, Mas?
MI: Rumah, aku agak sakit nih
X: Sakit lagi? Lagi musiman kayaknya. Flu ya?
MI: Nggak, sakit perut, gila ampe lemes gini
X: Kurang cairan ya. Virus ya, Mas?
MI: He eh, kata dokter juga gitu. (Suara lemes berganti jadi semangat '45) Oh ya, tadi aku flipping channel, terus ada ini perempuan, kontroversial banget deh.
X: Kontroversial gimana?
MI: Dia muslim pertama yang aku tau terang-terangan ngaku gay
X: Oh ya, channel mana, Mas? Namanya siapa?
MI: 40 menit lagi tuh, O'Reilly-nya, tungguin deh.
X: OK, ya udah. Daaa
MI: Da.

40 minutes later, buzz....

X: Mas, aku udah dapet namanya. Irshad Manji. Ada website-nya.
MI: Nah iya bener, aku hampir bener kan, hehehe...Itu tuh udah hampir mulai
X: Oh iya, thanks.
MI: Ya udah, daa...
X: Daa.

Comment on the show:
That was the first time I witnessed O'Reilly showing a greater concern to his guest, like a father to a daughter, well, maybe more like a sympathy. And, yes, she is really a controversial and one opionated gal, coining a new flavor to the term refusenik.

Days of Wine and Rose

So, here I am, at the office, plotting fail-proof schemes to take over the universe planning the details of both the long and short-run targets for the year, which, of course, includes stuff in research and in personal life. There are holes here and there, but I hope as time progressing (or should I say, as I am progressing with time?), I'd be able to fill in the necessaries. So enough about that.

I know, it's just the beginning of the year. For some reason, I really want to spend a few weeks of the up coming Dec-Jan school break vacationing the east coast: the tri-state, Boston, DC. I want it more than a trip home. Mother might be screaming what an ungrateful child I am. Hee hee hee.

To Bowl or Not to Bowl

One of my NY resolutions is to attend mass regularly, well, at least once a week. So today, I went to the 5:30 PM one. It was nice, if not strange, when we came in. There weren't as many people as usual, it was a bit dark inside, and no choir members practicing on the left side of the altar. It turned out that there was no 5:30 mass, not until next week when school will be started.

So, Ndoro Yadda and I walked back home and were planning to attend the 7 PM one. With the extra time available, I decided to finish sending the award application for the symposium this April. It turned out that the advisor wanted me to type-fill the application instead of the manual hand-writing, ASAP. It required a lot more time, which translated to me missing the mass. Oh, well.

Oh a brighter note, the two of us along with the girls next door and some others peeps (who just like us are unfortunately stuck in CS during the break) will go bowling. Yippie.

Note to self: Need to bring that 100 avg up. It's just such an embarrassment. I've been playing like, uhm..how many? Yes, 12 years.

On the semi-hiatus
I looked back and found, it might be the me-myself-and-I anxiety that turns the blogging activities on hold. Yeah, the anxiety coming from the way me, myself and I have become the center of every single post. This has been much of a dry blog, no contents, no coherent thoughts, no opinions, merely a pinnacle of all thing narcistics. And I start to wonder, is this really the reflextion of who I really am....,

On the school break
2 sisters
1500 miles road trip
7 days
8 cities: Dallas, Plano, Houston, Katy, Austin, San Marcos, Brenham, Washington (on the Brazos, that is)
Pictures (and detailed accounts on the so-called adventure) later.

On the new semester
Come to think of it, I've been continuously institutionalized for six years and counting. Should have a pretty good grip on how to become a better student and later on a much devoted researcher. So, we'll see.

On life in general
I'm just glad I am still alive. Thank God. Carpe diem!!
